Shower Oil Vs. Body Wash: What's The Difference?

Updated: Oct 6, 2022

Many people are not aware of the differences between shower oil and body wash. The main difference is that shower oil can be used as a body wash, while body wash cannot be used as a shower oil. Shower oils have more benefits than body washes such as being an antioxidant that protects against UV rays and has soothing properties. Body washes just clean the skin. Which one would you rather use?

What is the difference between shower oil and body wash?

The body wash is used to clean your body with soap and water in the shower or bath, whereas shower oil is more concentrated so you can use it on your skin without getting wet. They have some key differences that include how they are used, their ingredients, and their effects on your skin type.

Body wash vs. shower oil: Which one is right for you?

Body wash and shower oil have different benefits to offer, it is really just a personal preference on which you should use. A person who cares about getting their body clean will want to use body wash because it has more cleaning power than oils do. On the other hand, someone who wants to moisturize their skin would be better off using oil instead of soap for it has better moisturizing properties than soap does.

The choice between these two products really depends on what kind of needs you are looking to meet in your shower routine.

Why shower oil might be better for sensitive skin?

Body wash can be more irritating to the skin than shower oil because it is made of surfactants, which are strong chemicals that bind to soap particles and can dry out the skin. Surfactants make up between 10-25% of body wash products. When skin becomes dry or irritated, it will naturally produce even more oils to compensate for what has been lost, leading to an oily sheen on your skin. Shower oil doesn't have any surfactants, so it won't cause dryness or irritation but will leave your skin feeling soft and supple instead. One thing that people with sensitive skin do not need is more irritation!

As mentioned above, one benefit of using shower oil over body wash is that you'll get skin moisturized without getting any dry patches or irritations. It also won't leave behind an oily residue like some bath soaps may, making it better for those who already feel they have too much natural oil production going on. If you've got really sensitive skin and want to avoid additional breakouts in addition to scrubbing down once daily then definitely use shower oil instead!

What are the benefits of using shower oil?

Typically shower oils come in small bottles and are also more expensive than body wash, but these benefits may outweigh for some people. Shower oils can be used for both your hair and skin, so there is no need to use two different products which saves time and money from having to buy two products separately.

These types of oil-based cleansers are better for sensitive skin because they do not contain harsh or irritating ingredients such as alcohol that typically is found in most body washes. They are more natural which means they don't have any artificial chemicals such as sulfates that could dry out your skin or strip it of its natural oils.
