The Right Way to Burn a Candle

Trust us, you've been burning candles wrong your whole life. A great candle experience begins with proper candle care and maintenance. Extend the life of candles and burn like a pro by following these simple tips, provided by Light Up Malaysia.

Memory rings of candles

Every candle has memory, and the first burn is the most important. Candles should burn one hour for every inch in diameter of the actual candle size. If the wax is not allowed to melt from edge to edge of the jar, the memory ring will be created. Once the memory ring is formed, the candle will continue to burn that way for the life of the candle.

Keep the wick trimmed to 1/8 inch at all times

Light Up Malaysia suggest to trim the candle wick every 4 hours of burning time. The candle should always come to room temperature after the flame been extinguish, and you can trim the wick to 1/8 of inch before light it. Wick trimmers can be used to create a nice clean cut and maintains the wick properly.

Do not burn the candles more than 4 hours at a time

It is recommended that after burning for four hours, candles be extinguished, allowed to cool for two hours, and trimmed before relighting.

Keep the flame away from moving air

When burning a candle, avoid proximity to fans, air conditioners, open windows, or crowded areas with people walking back and forth. Moving air can disturb the flame, resulting in those pesky black marks on the glass.
